A study by the European Commission on consumer habits across the EU reveals that fish and seafood products are regularly consumed by Europeans.

In fact, in 2015, seafood mounting to €54 billion worth of seafood was consumed by in Europe, this equates to approximately 25.5kg per European.

The main drivers for the vast consumption of seafood was found to be the health benefits, taste, appearance and cost of the product.

Although wild caught seafood is preferred over cultured products, the study found that the vast majority of Europeans are open to trying new seafood products.  This coupled with the fact that the seafood industry is expected to grow in Europe, allows for untapped market opportunities.
