Last week the Women in Fisheries Network- Fiji joined the Fiji Environmental Law Association team to Lautoka to conduct legal training to women of the Ba Province.

Fiji Environmental Law Association Executive Director Kiji Vukikomoala is a strong supporter and member of WiFN and we are grateful for her commitment in providing her expertise in helping women fishers make informed decision about their environment.

The training was described as an eye-opener by many that attended and ended up with the different tikina reps sharing their legal challenges and environmental issues concerning coastal and fisheries management.

Project Officer Joeli Billy also presented on the work that the network is involved with as well as our future projects that the women of the Ba province can be part of.

The Ba Province is the largest in Fiji. According to Provincial Conservation Officer – Mr Rusiate Valenitabua, Ba had 21 Districts and 107 villages.

Valenitabua was the Chief Guest for the occasion and acknowledged the participants for their contributions to the Ba Province.

He  concluded by challenging the women quoting a famous Nadroga phrase “Me la ju ga, Me la juga”.

“Let the knowledge that you learn from today build bridges and be a shining light to your respective communities”

The training was held at the Rogorogoivuda House.
