On the 8th of March, the Women in Fisheries Network-Fiji (WiFN-Fiji) together with the Ministry of Fisheries, the Wildlife Conservation Society and the Fiji Locally Managed Marine Areas will be co-hosting a National Forum on Women in Fisheries.
Coinciding with the International Day for Women, the forum hopes to bring stakeholders including representatives from fishing communities together to present the latest science, management, development and policy work on women in the fisheries sector.
Given that WiFN-Fiji is a network, its participation in the forum both as a co-host and presenters will give it higher credibility, working in the space of gender and fisheries. Hence allowing women fishers to listen and learn more
about their issues, needs and priorities.
The Forum also contributes to the WiFN-Fiji core mission to build a network of stakeholders, practitioners and fishers in the sector together, to share information, lessons learnt, and find innovative partnerships. It will provide WiFN-Fiji the opportunity to widen its membership and highlight its highly collaborative nature, and providing a good platform to leverage the network’s priority areas under its current strategic plan.
