WiFN-Fiji hosted a 3-day Resilience Training in Climate Adaptation (CCA) Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Justice from the 18th to the 20th of May 2022 on Leleuvia Island. It was an exciting opportunity for women fishers that were selected from 7 provinces to attend the 3 – Day Training Program.The 22 participants came from the provinces of Cakaudrove, Kadavu, Ba, Ra, Tailevu, Rewa & Nadroga.
The 3- day event was funded by Women’s fund Fiji, as part of their work with Global Alliance for Green and Gender Action (GAGGA).
With the aim of strengthening capacities in resilience for women fishers on Climate change, Disaster Risk Reduction concepts, activities and approaches; the workshop took place to capture stories on mitigation and adaptation strategies of each community towards climate change and also equipping them with the relevant knowledge and practices – using the gender lens for a more resilient Fiji.
The Workshop was opened by the Chief Guest Ms. Menka Goundan who is the Women’s Fund Fiji Senior Program Manager and Acting Executive Director followed by our Guest Speaker of the day, Ms. Aliti Vunisea who is a member of the Women in Fisheries Network – Fiji.
We would like to acknowledge all the stakeholders: Women’s Fiji Fund, members of the forum, Ms. Teresia Powell and also the staffs of Leleuvia Island resort for making this workshop a successful one and we look forward to more effective training platform for our women fishers in the future.
