Meet one of our active network members and women fisher – Sera Baleisasa of Namuaimada Village in the District of Navolau, Ra who was one of the 17 fisher women that was a part of the Training of Trainers workshop on Climate Change and Disaster Ready Preparedness in May that was facilitated by WiFN-FIJI through the Fiji AHP – Australian Humanitarian Partnership
It was an opportunity for the women to strengthen their capacities in resilience on Climate Change, Disaster Risk Reduction concepts, activities, and approaches, hence equipping them with the relevant knowledge and practices for a more resilient Fiji.
After the training, Sera shared that her self–confidence and understanding of Climate Change, Disaster Risk Reduction concepts had improved enabling her to participate more meaningfully and be heard in her community. Due to the impacts of climate change in her community, Sera highlighted the importance of women’s role in the need to be proactive in addressing the direct impacts of climate change and being disaster ready. Roles she emphasizes that are paramount in securing the future of generations to come.
