Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nation (FAO) has recently published a handbook called “Towards gender-equitable small-scale fisheries governance and development ” by Nilanjana Biswas. This handbook is in support of the implementation of the Voluntary Guidelines for Securing Sustainable Small-Scale Fisheries in the Context of Food Security and Poverty Eradication (SSF Guidelines).
There are three parts to the handbook :
Apart from covering many gender issues in small-scale fisheries, the handbook also includes several case studies from across the globe. Interestingly, Pacific Fishing Company (PAFCO) in Levuka is one of the case studies. Action points follow the case studies and are aimed at policy makers and civil society organisations (CSO) that offer advice related to the subject of the case study.
