Around 21 participants representatives from each village Disaster committees from Yaloku and Nanuku, located in the District of Nalotawa in Ba underwent a Community Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) Training and Community Feedback Mechanism, Safeguarding, Inclusion and Women in Decision Making awareness facilitated by WiFN – Fiji and supported by Oxfam in the Pacific and Fiji AHP – Australian Humanitarian Partnership. The training was held at the Yaloku Community Hall from the 10th to 14th March 2025, with the main objective for Community Disaster Management Committees (CDMCs) to attain knowledge, resources and capacity to respond to rapid and slow onset disasters.
The training was intended to strengthen capacity needs on disaster preparedness and response planning using local and modern knowledge of community participants and priority risk reduction actions were identified.
We would like to acknowledge all the stakeholders: DFAT, Fiji AHP – Australian Humanitarian Partnership, Oxfam in the Pacific, Ba Provincial Office and the Yaloku and Nanuku village representatives for making this training & awareness a successful one and we look forward to more effective training platforms for our communities and project partners in the future.
